Of the 1.8 million new cancer diagnoses made in the US each year, 30% of these patients will experience metastatic disease to the brain during the course of their fight to overcome their primary cancer. Unique to the brain, the Blood Brain Barrier, prevents penetration of effective immunotherapies from attacking brain metastases, leaving control of these lethal lesions to highly-focused beams of ionizing radiation.
Advances in radiosurgery have revolutionized the attack on brain metastases, as well as many other brain disorders, and radiosurgery remains our most effective weapon in the war against metastatic deposits to healthy brain tissue. Effectively controlling these lesions significantly prolongs symptom-free survival. We believe that providing a clinical setting for the multidisciplinary approach to the complex challenge of fighting brain mets requires a novel approach. That is why we are creating a network of dedicated centers designed specifically for the management of this complex manifestation of disseminated cancer.
